THrows

According to Christian Champagne, author of The Yat Dictionary, throws are… "things that are thrown off of a Mardi Gras float. Doubloons, beads, and various and sundry trinkets. He expounds on the tradition and reveals that by shouting, …”’Throw me something mistuh,’ the classic beeseechment from a parade-goer to a float-rider or masker…” one might convince another bestow a treat upon them!

Most of my favorite throws weren’t thrown to me at all, but were handed to me, gingerly, by friends and strangers alike. Catching/Throwing a throw symbolizes recognition, between revelers, of the je-ne-sais-pas-quoi that you are laying down in the street that day.
